HEAD NURSE
Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Head Nurse will provide direction, inspiration and counseling to teammates while monitoring workflow, quality outcomes and patient satisfaction in the center. This position is responsible for delivery and supervision of all dialysis- related nursing services for End Stage Renal Disease patients in a chronic setting. The Head Nurse will meet or exceed financial objectives established by The company leadership.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes. The Head Nurse may have non-medicalsupervisory responsibility over all other clinically-based teammates including but not limited to dietitian, pharmacist, social worker, administrative assistant, receptionist, and porter.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive:
  1. Provides oversight of clinical teammates and day-to-day operations
  2. Provides input on teammate relations, hiring, termination, professional development, and performance development
  3. Plans, organizes, directs, and manages nursing care of patients in the center; may participate in direct patient care
  4. Assists Clinical Operations Manager in facility management as requested to ensure a safe and sanitary physical environment throughout the center
  5. Ensures implementation and compliance with The company KSA Policies and Procedures (P&Ps), and all safety regulatory requirements
  6. Assists Clinical Operations Manager in ensuring center is prepared at all times to handle emergency care of patients, including proper training of teammates, equipment readiness, and procedures in place
  7. Communicates all emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents as directed by the P&P
  8. Ensures safe and sanitary physical environment is maintained throughout center
  9. Is a resource for new RNs
  10. Provides unsupervised patient care
  11. Demonstrates ability to transfer skill set to other centers and works at other centers when required
  12. Meets qualification for Head Nurse; assumes Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) program and outcome management responsibilities
  13. Quality Improvement and Facility Management Meeting (QIFMM) leader and driver for improvement
  14. Demonstrates proficiency in all Chronic RN duties
  15. Is a leader for Patient Education
  16. Directs work of other staff
  17. Attend mandatory training as part of the onboarding process
  18. Assumes responsibility for own administrative/clerical duties as needed
Teammate Management
  1. Provides input on teammate relations, hiring, termination, professional development, and performance development
  2. Creates, maintains, and communicates efficient and timely employee schedules according to the needs of the facility
  3. Provides leadership to direct reports by helping overcome organizational obstacles encountered during projects
  4. Knows, understands, implements, follows, and communicates to teammates all The company employment P&Ps, awards, and other opportunities within company
  5. Ensures all The company employment processes are completed timely and in compliance with The company policy and any applicable laws including but not limited to Performance Development Reviews, teammate personnel file maintenance, etc.
  6. Addresses teammate relations issues appropriately and escalate as necessary
  7. Provides work direction for department teammates
  8. Reports and document all teammate injuries according to established P&Ps
  9. Tracks overtime, attendance, and PTO
  10. Knows, understands, follows, and implements The company safety and security P&Ps
Patient Management
  1. Plans, organizes, directs and manages nursing care of patients in the center
  2. Participates in development and revision of P&Ps with Regional Operations Director (ROD), Director of Clinical Services and Nephrology Consultant to ensure consistent, efficient and safe treatment delivery
  3. Prepares center to handle emergency care of patients, including proper training of teammates, equipment readiness and procedures
  4. Supervises and performs direct patient care, including but not limited to taking and monitoring vital signs, initiation and termination of dialysis, documentation, physical assessment of patients and patient treatments, taking and transcription of physician’s orders and drawing and documentation of ordered laboratory work
  5. Notes signs of trauma, patients’ general physical and mental condition, reviews dialysis orders, documents observations in patient medical records
  6. Analyzes patient assessments, laboratory data and, when concerns are noted, brings issues to the attention of the physician
  7. Communicates all emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents as per the P&Ps
  8. Assesses patient and family learning readiness and provides appropriate information on renal disease, prescribed dialysis treatment and medical regimen
  9. Monitors impacts to patient health and well-being
  10. Provides dialysis therapy, including but not limited to formulating dialysis plan per physician orders, weight and rate to be ultra-filtered, ensuring safety measures are in place and complied with, administering medications or other appropriate treatments, discontinuing dialysis according to established procedure, documenting all activity appropriately
  11. Instructs patients on pre- and post-dialysis care
  12. Instructs patients on pre-transplant preparation
  13. Administers patient quality care in a considerate, respectful manner
  14. Participates in long-term and short-term care planning and monthly progress notes
Financial Management
  1. Supervises inventory management including purchasing, product selection, and supply usage
  2. Ensures patient and treatment charge information are accurate and submitted to Ministry of Health (MOH) in a timely manner
  3. Ensures patient and treatment charge information and related data are accurate and submitted in a timely manner by means of designated reporting system
  4. Provides oversight of clinical teammates and day-to-day operations
Risk Management/Quality Assurance Compliance
  1. Ensures compliance with The company P&Ps in accordance with MOH regulations for patient care and services
  2. Ensures compliance with MOH regulations for injury prevention and safety training
  3. Maintains Quality Assurance (QA) Programs as required by The company
  4. Constantly looks at current processes and procedures and identifies and implements areas of improvement while adhering to The company and Saudi requirements
  5. Participates in and leads QA meetings and all applicable in-services
  6. Participates in and leads QA cost containment programs
  7. Fosters sense of urgency in teammates that promotes commitment to optimal clinical outcomes and regulatory compliance for the center

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, including computer skills as required
  1. Registered Nurse (RN) credential, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  2. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in dialysis
  3. Minimum of 2 years’ experience as Head Nurse in a dialysis center
  4. Certified in BCLS, ACLS preferred
  5. Certified and registered with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
  6. Current CPR certification required
  7. Completed training program approved by the Medical Director and governing body as required by The company and Saudi MOH guidelines prior to operating the water treatment system
  8. Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required; functional proficiency in all computer systems of The company within 60 days of hire required

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to successfully perform the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position
  1. Ability to read, speak, and write English with clarity of expression sufficient to communicate technical and complex concepts to teammates, patients, and patient family members in clear and easily understandable terms required (Arabic preferred)
  2. Ability to understand clinical/medical vocabulary written or spoken in English required (Arabic preferred)

VISUAL REQUIREMENTS
Vision adequate to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of position
  • Ability to pass color vision test, if applicable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:
  • Ability to lift minimum of 5 pounds to a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Uses of appropriate personal protection measures are required for every healthcare provider in these positions.
