CHARGE NURSE
Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
This position is responsible for the delivery and supervision of all nursing services for Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients under their care.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Yes. The position may provide direct and/or indirectsupervision of Staff Nurses in support of the clinic Head Nurse.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties and responsibilities generally reflect the expectations of this position but are not intended to be all inclusive:
  • Provides oversight of clinical teammates and day-to-day operations in support of the Head Nurse
  • Provides input on teammate relations, hiring, termination, professional development, and performance development at discretion of the Head Nurse
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and manages nursing care of patients in the unit
  • Assists Head Nurse in facility management as requested to ensure a safe and sanitary physical environment is maintained throughout the facility
  • Ensures implementation and compliance with The company KSA’s Policies and Procedures (P&Ps), and all safety regulatory requirements
  • Assists Head Nurse in ensuring center is prepared at all times to handle emergency care of patients including proper training of teammates, equipment readiness, and procedures in place
  • Supervises other staff in the delivery of direct patient care
  • Performs direct patient care, determined by the area of practice including but not limited to:
Monitoring vital signs and physical assessment of patient o Transcribing physician orders
Drawing and documenting ordered laboratory work o Documenting treatment
Administering medications according to physician orders o Providing dialysis therapy (HD/PD)
Providing vascular access (VA) care and assessment for HD o Assisting with VA center procedures
Providing appropriate information to the patient regarding their care
  • Analyzes patient assessments, laboratory data and, when concerns are noted, brings issues to the attention of the physician
  • Communicates all emergencies, patient life-threatening complications and related incidents to the Head Nurse, Nephrologist, Director of Clinical Services and/or Regional Operations Director
  • Assesses patient and family learning readiness and provides appropriate information
  • Maintains a high standard of clinical practice and safe working environment
  • Promotes and maintains safe infection prevention and control practices
  • Instructs patients on regarding dialysis, access care and CKD
  • Instructs patients on pre-transplant preparation
  • Administers patient quality care in a considerate, respectful manner
  • Participates in long- and short-term care planning and monthly progress notes
  • Provides unsupervised patient care
  • Demonstrates the ability to transfer skill set to other centers and works at other centers when required
  • Meets qualification for Charge Nurse
  • Is a driver for quality improvement
  • Attends mandatory training as part of the onboarding process
  • Assumes responsibility for administrative/clerical duties as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, licenses, certifications, and experience required to fulfill the essential duties, including computer skills as required
  1. Registered Nurse (RN) credential, Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from accredited school of nursing required; proficiency shown in all Staff RN duties
  2. Minimum 3 years’ experience in dialysis, minimum 2 years’ experience as Dialysis BSN/RN; administration experience is highly recommended
  3. Certified in BCLS, ACLS preferred
  4. Certified and registered with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS)
  5. Possesses additional certifications (such as CDN or others)
  6. Current CPR certification required
  7. Demonstrated leader for inventory control, pharmacy management, patient and nurse education
  8. Excellent communication skills
  9. Completed training program approved by Medical Director and governing body as required by The company and Saudi Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines prior to operating water treatment system
  10. Basic computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Outlook required; functional proficiency in all computer systems of The company within 60 days of hire required
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Fluent in the written and verbal skills necessary to perform successfully the essential functions, duties, and responsibilities of the position
  1. Ability to read, speak, and write English with clarity of expression sufficient to communicate technical and complex concepts to teammates, patients, and patient family members in clear and easily understandable terms required (Arabic preferred)
  2. Ability to understand clinical/medical vocabulary written or spoken in English required (Arabic preferred)
VISUAL REQUIREMENTS:
Vision adequate to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of position
  • Ability to pass color vision test, if applicable
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Physical requirements can vary. These must be reviewed with management. However, in general, the position requires the following physical activities:
  • Ability to lift minimum of 5 pounds to a maximum of 35 pounds unassisted and able to perform repetitive standing, sitting, stooping, walking, stretching, reaching, and use full range of body motions
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Job required tasks routinely involve a potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, tissues or potential spills or splashes. Uses of appropriate personal protection measures are required for every healthcare provider in these positions.
